      Some advice?

Anyone out there the mother (or father) of a "tween"
You know, those 12-year-old wannabe teens?
In truth my daughter will hit that magic number 13 in about 3 1/2 months. In the meantime, she is an avid reader, and she reads above her "level" (I think most kids who like to read do).
      My problem is this:
When we shop for books ... where do I buy? What do I buy? How do I screen them without reading them all myself first?
The "teen" section at B&N ... can be anything from Harry Potter to "$ex and the High School senior" (ok, I made that one up).
I read all the jackets, thumb through the pages, and still she gets 1/2 chapter into a book and tells me, "Mom, I'm not going to read that book, it has a lot of inappropriate words and situations in it. I think I should wait until I'm older."
      Damn!
I thought I was sure of THAT one! Now what about the others she got?

      SO my question is this:
is there someone who does a website or listing of books by age-appropriate level?
I'm really NOT that much of a "prude" ... but young girls like to read about young girls ... and books about young girls and their situations are often just a little ahead of a 12-year-old!
I often shop at the Christian book store ... and she just finished the Melody Carlson "Chloe" series and loved it. But I certainly don't want to limit her scope of the world to any particular genre of books!
Seems we are often safe with science-fiction fantasy ... but again, let's not have to limit like that!
So ... anyone know of a place to go? I did find one site over at "Healthy Kids . com" ... but it's 8 - 12 (I listed the books here) ... and what happens in three months? Do I have to go to the 13-18 list????
Maybe we should create our own!

To be outspoken when truth is under attack, when charity is being bruised, or when important issues of life are at stake is a good and courageous thing. To be outspoken when nothing is at stake except the feelings of someone else is a small and contemptible thing. ~ Lawrence G. Lovasik (The Hidden Power of Kindness)
