100 THINGS
1. I am a wife.
2. I am a mother.
3. I am a Christian.
4. I am 40-something
5. I color my hair (gasp, yes I do)– and I will until I choose to stop!!!
6. When I was an adolescent I was always too tall, and my feet were too big
7. I have gotten over the too tall, and the feet (although they are still size 9 ½ )
8. My front teeth are too big
9. I have a perfect nose (was told that by a plastic surgeon – no, it’s my real nose)
10. I was married at 19 (big mistake)
11. I was divorced at 23 (no regrets, we learn and grow from our mistakes)
12. I married the love-of-my-life at 34
13. I was a step-mother (step-dame) before I was a mother.
14. My step-daughters are two of my best friends
15. I have one child – a daughter
16. She has made my life worthwhile – I now have a reason for it all
17. I am terrified that I am not capable of being a good mother
18. My husband has three children – three daughters – (he is a very good father)
19. I have four grandchildren (well, step-grandchildren, but it feels the same to me)
20. I am a full-time-working-mother
21. I constantly struggle with “am I doing the right thing for my daughter?”
22. I am happily married – I love my husband!
23. I travel one hour to get to work
24. I listen to audio-books on my commute (so I “do” a lot of books)
25. My husband says I never sit and “relax”
26. I am incapable if sitting in front of the TV and doing nothing else
27. I don’t like to watch TV
28. However, when I do – Sopranos, Everwood, Raymond
29. I am a bird-watcher (or “birder” as I call it)
30. If I ever do relax it is watching the birds outside my kitchen window
31. The above is done while washing the dishes (and talking on the phone)
32. I love to vacation in Shennendoah Natl. Park where I could watch the deer all day
33. I can (and do) watch deer any day or evening outside my own kitchen window
34. My daughter does not play soccer (or any team sport)!
35. therefore I am not a soccer mom!!! (yay!)
36. although, I do have two Christmas-themed cardigan sweaters
37. I do not drive a mini-van
38. I drive a Taurus wagon (same?)
39. But I still am not a soccer mom
40. I go to curves 3 X a week to work out (OK, at least twice a week)
41. I have a Nordic Track in my basement that I actually still use occasionally
42. I grew up in the 60’s / 70’s
43. Yes, I wore granny glasses, headbands, peace signs, beads and bell-bottom jeans that dragged on the ground.
44. I actually never did drugs of any kind – just watched my friends get high
45. I have more than once seen a doctor about stress
46. I think now that drugs would do me some good
47. I am at times “psycho-stress-mom-from-hell” (just ask my daughter)
48. I believe I have adult ADD
49. The above two items may be connected (the above four??)
50. Stay away from me when I have PMS
51. at all other times I am non-confrontational
52. I am a workaholic (according to my husband)
53. I am a not a good housekeeper
54. I “pop” from room-to-room while cleaning and accomplish nothing (A-ADD)
55. My family members are my closest friends (husband included)
56. My two sisters are my best connection to my real self – and they are my friends
57. My younger sister lives just too damn far away!!!
58. I have a best friend that I don’t see enough of (but she understands)
59. I have been known to vote either Republican or Democrat – not married to any party (shhh … don’t tell my dad)
60. I also: listen to Dixie Chicks, have read Hillary Clinton’s book and shop in Wal-Mart (don’t tell my dad any of this) – if you know my dad, you’ll know why
61. You can tell my mom anything you’d like about me – she knows it all already
62. If you tell my mom anything – she will repeat it to one or both of my sisters
63. I am not good at keeping secrets (where do you think I get this from?)
64. The older I get, the more I become my mother (don’t we all?)
65. I don’t want my daughter to become me - (gasp – she is often distracted and scattered)
66. I am not a good listener – I keep trying
67. I am not a good friend, I tend to be self-centered (I’m working on this too)
68. I am a procrastinator – (I have Adult ADD)
69. I can not listen to the radio and work at the same time (see above)
70. I can not hold a conversation while someone on the TV is talking (again, above)
71. I hate political talk – opinion/discussion shows where everyone is yelling at everyone else. SHUT UP! When I am home I would like less stress, not more!
72. I love photography, but I’m not very good at it
73. I am a middle child
74. I want to learn to play piano some day
75. We have a piano – my daughter plays it
76. I have a secret desire to take voice lessons some day
77. I am happiest when I am singing the old standard hymns on Sunday mornings.
78. I am constantly frustrated by the lack of time to do anything
79. My desk at work is a pile of papers that “I am getting to”
80. My desk at home is a pile of papers that “I am getting to”
81. When I am home alone, I play no music or TV – I like it QUIET
82. I love to travel – doesn’t have to be far – just somewhere new!
83. I hate food-shopping
84. I hate automated phone systems (press 2 – press 7 – press … grrr..)
85. I have always been bad with math
86. My husband helps with Math homework – I help with Language Arts
87. I love dark-chocolate
88. Favorite books – A Prayer for Owen Meany (Irving), Losing Julia (Hull), Plain and Simple (Bender)
89. Favorite movie: Norma Rae (a personal heroine of mine)
90. Favorite Broadway Show: Les Miserables
91. Music? Anything, soft jazz, Clapton, Sade, Alison Krauss, Harry Connick Jr., Garth (when I am cleaning house)
92. I have had only two different jobs in my 30-year career!
93. I tend to get “stuck” in one place (not that I don’t like my job)
94. I love to entertain in my home (I waited a long time for this)
95. I love when company goes home and my house is still clean!
96. I never feel I am good enough at anything I do – (present job included)
97. Include parenting in the above statement
98. You may as well include being a good wife in the above statement too
99. I judge myself solely on my perception of how other perceive me (I know, not smart)
100. Some day I will take a trip to Alaska with my family.
